Hell was let loose in Mafoluku, Oshodi, this morning, as factions of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) clashed, leaving three persons dead, including a policeman.

P.M.News gathered that the combatants were from the Gani Adams and Frederick Fasehun factions of the OPC. The bloody clash, which started early in the morning, led to panic among residents of Mafoluku, and traders in that area. Street gates and shops were quickly locked to prevent the combatants from attacking residents or burning houses.

Scores of OPC members were seen wielding dangerous weapons, like guns, cutlasses and cudgels. They reportedly set out from Afariogun and attacked each other. At the Afariogun junction, a dead man, with his eyes removed, was seen lying there, while another one was seen lying at Jubrilla Street. Major streets, like Baderin, Taiwo, Cole, Ogunoloko and Afijalo and Mafoluku Road, were battle grounds for the warring factions.

A policeman in mufti, identified as Badmus, was also killed at Afariogun junction. It was not clear what the OPC factions were fighting for, but residents said it might not be unconnected with the control of motor parks in the area. The leader of the Gani Adams faction was identified as ‘Nothing Spoil', while the leader of the Fasehun faction was identified as ‘Kosija'.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the OPC members had girls in their midst and they were shooting sporadically at each other. 'When we saw them, we thought they were thieves as they were shooting sporadically. We didn't know their target. They were just firing and speaking in yoruba.

'Later, they confronted the police drafted there to maintain peace. The police parked their vehicles and the OPC people fled. They later came back and confronted the police again. They killed a policeman during the shooting,' he told P.M.News. A detachment of policemen from the state police command had arrived the area as at the time of filing this report. They came with an armoured tank and six RRS vehicles. All shops and schools around the area have been closed down. Policemen were seen parading the area to avoid a spill over to the popular Oshodi market.
